Get ready for a great rock show that welcomes back familiar faces to the Osprey stage!

Brite-VU:
Comprised of lead vocal and guitarist Robb Medwid, bassist Greg Erkvaara , drummer Steve DeWolfe and most recently Stephen Elliott on lead guitar and vocals, this band has continued to grow and harness their strenghts to provide a powerful, and dynamic sound with a varied melodic wave. Bringing deep melodic rock, Brite-VU drives a resounding tone with their combination of strong vocal rhythms and driving choruses. Based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Brite-VU has evolved into an explosive original rock band.

This show will be opened by local music duo, Mike Elliott and Bruce Reid.
Great band, great local musicians, and some father/son connections, don’t miss it!

Tuesday July 17, 8 pm – Threnodies

Threnodies is a collaboration between Jazz composer Geordie Haley and contemporary choreographer Susanne Chui. Haley has written 12 songs for four musicians – Haley himself on Guitar, Doug Cameron on Drums, Tim Crofts on Piano and Gneti on Bass.

Susanne Chui will choreograph dances for three of these pieces for three dancers – Sara Coffin is the artistic director of Mocean Dance, Jacinte Armstrong is part of the dance collective Sometimes in Nova Scotia and Rhonda Baker has returned to Halifax after working with Toronto Dance Theatre.

Tickets $20 adult, $5 student. (This event is general seating, so choose your seat as you arrive.)

Susanne will give us a taste of her work on May 3. After a short dance piece, she’ll talk about Threnodies, an event that opens Founders Days week with a unique music and dance event, part of Dance at the Osprey.

We’re presenting skits, stand-up & musical comedy, but we’re offering the stage to anyone who wants to tell a joke or a funny story. If you do, the manager will buy you a drink at the bar! If you want to do a short routine, contact us.

May 25, 26, & 27 – Basement Theatre: The Affections of May

May and her husband move to a small town to open a B&B. Shortly abandoned by her husband, May is wooed by several locals, in hilarious and touching ways. Written by popular Canadian playwright Norm Foster, this play has wormed its way into the hearts of amateur theatre companies all over Canada. It is the most produced play in the country.

Featuring Alison Stanton, Chett Buchanan, Ed Trevors and Ben Pooley, directed by Susan Hoover. Count on great sets, lighting and sound by the Osprey staff and Basement Theatre volunteers.
Friday May 25 and Saturday May 26 at 8pm and Sunday May 27 at 2pm.

August 25, 8 pm – HarbourTone REVUE

An evening of budding musicians and seasoned pros! Shelburne’s very own professional recording studio, HarbourTone Productions, will showcase its 2012 recording artists this August at the Osprey. An energetic concert with a little something for everyone including well-known local musicians and some you may discover and hear for the first time.

All proceeds from this concert go towards the Osprey. Come out and support Shelburne’s favourite stage and the newest music Shelburne has to offer!

This concert is a ukulele summit with Ralph Shaw, Manitoba Hal, Nigel D’eon and Hank Mumps. Music from George Formby to the surf sounds of the fifties and sixties will be performed along with the Blues to the Beatles. Ralph Shaw is the epitome of the very best that the golden age of British Music Hall and Vaudeville can offer. Manitoba Hal is Canada’s leading ukulele bluesman, Hank Mumps is the Surf Ukulele King. This group of 24 young singers is breaking new ground in the choral performance practices of their region and is fast gaining national attention. Xara brings audiences innovative, exciting performances that draw on a strong narrative, movement, and lighting in addition to challenging choral repertoire. Since their first concert in 2008, Xara has performed to sold-out halls of up to 500 people and has received heart-warming critical acclaim.

Xara will perform “Wail: Songs of the Brier Island Siren.” Amidst the throws of the Fundy tide wanders the mythical Atlantic Siren, part woman, part bird. Her lonely song has lured generations of sailors to wreck their ships on Brier Island’s shores. This full-length piece of choral theatre imagines the life of this sad, beautiful creature and the relationship between Siren and sailor.
